What will you be doing?

As we enter our 8th year we are excited to continue elevating and amplifying refugee voices through theatre. Having supported hundreds of young refugees, most of whom are unaccompanied minors, we believe in the transformative potential of theatre. However, our work takes place against a backdrop of hostility, precarity and struggle for newly arrived refugees in the UK, and as we see significant changes in policy we are faced with big questions about how we respond as an organisation; what role can Phosphoros Theatre play in these young people's lives? We are looking for a new Treasurer to join our board of trustees to ensure financial viability and help develop our financial vision for the future. It's an active role working closely with our executive team, and is an essential role in our small charity as we develop meaningful creative work in challenging circumstances. We are looking for someone who believes in the transformative potential of community based theatre and is interested in sharing their financial expertise with us. We are particularly interested in meeting individuals with lived experience of forced migration. The responsibilities of the role are:  - Overseeing and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements to the board.  - Assuring the board that Phosphoros's resources are being properly managed in line with both its constitution and charity law.  - Ensuring financial activity complies with relevant regulations. - Ensuring proper systems are in place for financial control. - Advising the board on financial risk management.

What are we looking for?

Qualified and experienced accountant. Experience and knowledge of fundraising commercial/charity finance, budgeting and accounting.  Additionally candidates will have the following qualities: - Passion for championing refugee focussed arts  - Strategic thinking  - Excellent communication skills  - Confidence and a willingness to speak their mind and ask tricky questions  - Team work and collaboration skills  - Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality  - Independent judgement  - Commitment to making meetings inclusive and welcoming to Trustees with all levels of experience  - Advocacy and networking skills to help us build new relationships  - Willingness to offer expertise, skills and personal insight to support us

What difference will you make?

As part of our board, you will support and shape our work and strategic direction in an exciting period of growth. As a small charity, we are in regular communication with our trustees, so you will have a real opportunity to apply professional expertise and see its real-world impact.  The role of Treasurer is so important to us. Juggling several medium sized funds at once, with consistent fundraising efforts throughout the year, we need someone to keep us on track financially so we stay viable. More significantly we want someone to help formulate our vision for the future as we continue to seek funding from trusts and foundations as well as diversifying our income through individual giving.  Our Trustees are excited by our work, generous with their knowledge and expertise and not afraid to ask difficult questions.
