What will you be doing?
The Bomb Factory Art Foundation is an arts organisation currently spanning five sites across London and registered as a charity in 2016. The organisation offers affordable studio spaces to more than 150 artists, whose voluntary contributions and active participation support our public programmes. We offer the public opportunities to engage with contemporary art through a diverse range of activities, including exhibitions, workshops, screenings, poetry evenings, performances, talks and cultural events. Our commitment to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in the art world drives our extensive learning and participation programme, tailored to enriching local communities and schools. Our successes have received public recognition from several organisations including Tate, The Art Newspaper and The New York Times.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have many of the following skills, experience and background:
Experience of commercial real estate, asset/property management and investment Possibly a Chartered Surveyor Skilled in real estate negotiation, working with landlords Experience of urban regeneration or culture-led placemaking Passionate about supporting the growth of social value in real estate development and urban planning Strategic planning and good financial analysis skills to help steward the charity’s resources wisely and carefully
Duties and Responsibilities The Trustees are collectively responsible for the long term success of the Bomb Factory providing leadership, clarity of purpose and vision. Specific responsibilities include:
Supporting the strategic ambitions of the Bomb Factory and acting as a critical friend to management Reviewing the annual budget, performance metrics and performance reporting mechanisms Advising on relationships with key stakeholders Act as an advocate for the Bomb Factory through their own networks and attend events such as exhibition openings in London Understanding the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a Trustee, including protecting the organisation’s reputation and monitoring identified key risks Devoting the necessary time and effort to the charity’s development, including active participation in board meetings (4 times per year), as well as selected additional events and sessions Ensuring The Bomb Factory’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
What difference will you make?
The Bomb Factory Art Foundation has expanded rapidly over the past 18 months. We occupy permanent and ‘meanwhile’ spaces and are continually searching for new buildings to further our aims. In the year to March 2023, the organisation generated revenues of £380k - they are expected to be circa. £550k in the current financial year. Last year 370 people took part in our workshops and 8,000 people interacted with Bomb Factory events which ran over 200 days of the year. The Bomb Factory is looking to add a new Trustee to its Board, with expertise in real estate. The existing board of Trustees has extensive experience in fundraising, contemporary art, arts education, arts finance and management. This is an ideal opportunity for someone to play a key role in the next stage of our development.
