  • Role Summary:
    • Drive user growth through proven top-of-funnel, product engagement, and CRM strategies.
    • Analyze and enhance the effectiveness of top-of-funnel strategies.
    • Coordinate product and content marketing to educate and engage users.
    • Utilize CRM and other tools to boost user engagement and education.
    • Contribute to the growth of Chess.com and its family of products, including Chessable, ChessKid, Dr. Wolf, and Kingdom Chess.
  • Role Requirements:
    • Hands-on experience growing MAU of mobile games or consumer apps through CRM, product engagement, and retention is crucial.
    • At least 7 years in product, content, or demand-generation marketing.
    • Minimum of 3 years dedicated to CRM and engagement marketing.
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills in a fully distributed team.
    • Demonstrated sense of ownership and responsibility.

About this role

Chess.com is looking for an experienced leader to run our version of Marketing. Historically Chess.com has had a somewhat non-traditional marketing strategy (especially for a “gaming/app” company): have a great product, make awesome content, work with amazing creators/partners, follow best-practices in SEO/ASO, and be the place where people looking for chess end up. We have NOT done paid/CAC marketing, and intend to keep it that way (we’ve tried, the ROI is bad, and we dominate search so much it just has the pizza coupon problem). Your role will span everything from top-of-funnel to product/content marketing to CRM to partnerships. Everything Chess.com does involves marketing of some kind and you will work cross-functionally to guide, deliver, and measure our growth. You will specifically be responsible for growing MAU in our core Chess.com.

What you will do

  • Drive growth through top of funnel, product engagement, and CRM that you have used before in other gaming and consumer apps
  • Gain visibility into our top-of-funnel strategies to help us understand effectiveness
  • Coordinate product and content marketing as we better educate our users about what we offer
  • Leverage our CRM and other tools for engagement and education
  • Help grow Chess.com, Chessable, ChessKid, Dr. Wolf, and Kingdom Chess

What you will NOT do

  • Have a budget for PPC and CAC
  • Direct a Super Bowl ad
  • "Brand" advertising
  • Build a new team

Preferred skills & experience

  • 7+ years in product, content, and/or demand-generation marketing
  • 3+ years in CRM and engagement marketing
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team
  • Sense of ownership and responsibility
