What will you be doing?

The ASO aims to develop an understanding of obesity through the pursuit of excellence in research and education, the facilitation of contact between individuals and organisations, and the promotion of action to prevent and treat obesity. We are looking for individuals with good organisational skills and methodical approach, experience of organising meetings, working on committees, the running of organisations and able to operate at a strategic level. We are particularly looking for people who have skills and experience in any of the following areas: ·         Legal ·         Governance ·         Digital technology and Social Media ·         Strategic decision making  ·         Finance/ accounting 

What are we looking for?

The Honorary Secretary and Deputy Chair of Board of Trustees should have the following skills and experience:

Good understating of the charitable objectives and activities undertaken by ASO. Have a clear understanding of the Charity Commission guidance and recommendations. Have a good knowledge of charity law and the voluntary sector. Good organisational skills and methodical. Ability to take good, clear, and concise minutes and keep accurate records. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team. A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role and engage with and respond to ASO communications in a timely manner. Experience of organising meeting, working on committees, the running of organisations and able to operate at a strategic level. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Good, independent judgement to contribute to an open and inclusive culture, impartiality, fairness, and the ability to respect confidences. Willingness to speak their mind with tact and diplomacy and hear and consider the opinions of others. Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of the role

The Deputy Chair / Honorary Secretary of the Board of Trustees is a key role in our organisation. This is a vital role, helping ensure smooth and efficient running of meetings of the Board of Trustees, aiding and supporting the Chair in providing clear leadership of the ASO Board of Trustees.
