What will you be doing?

We have an active articles section, and with a new website design about to go live, we are looking for someone who can help us coordinate and generate content that speaks to the Deaf Community on issues surrounding disability, human rights, education, employment, well-being. We have struggled as a small organisation to find on-going contributors and often spend a lot of time reaching out and crafting interviews or creating content ourselves, when this is not our background or experience. We are looking for someone with a passion for journalism who is willing to research and collaborate with our team to create meaningful content, but also someone who is willing to coordinate other contributors and ensure we have a interesting rotation of subjects and issues being covered.  The key for us is a continuous presence - it shouldn't take too much time, just a constant eye.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with previous professional experience in a similar role. A knowledge of SEO and Wordpress would be advantageous.  Ideally someone who is willing to learn and collaborate. We appreciate many people do not have a lived experience of disability or deafness, so we aren't looking for an expert in those areas necessarily.  We enjoy working with others and sharing our experiences and contributing to shaping articles that speak with a personal voice, yet have a strong journalistic tone and type.  Someone who is willing to do some research, suggest articles, keep an eye on the Community and what articles might speak to them and then help craft.

What difference will you make?

We are a small team who work as volunteers in this charity. We have a strong vision but need support in creating a strong voice - a message to the Community that we are the go-to place for content.  Our voice so far has been impactful, but inconsistent as it takes us a while to put an article or piece together and the confidence to release it to the world when we have no background in this. Having an experienced person would not only allow us to focus on other areas of the charity, but give us confidence in our messaging to the Community and the wider world.
