Role Summary

  • Coordinate the installation and dismantling of exhibitions and displays.
  • Assist with construction and technical aspects of temporary exhibitions both on-site and off-site.

Role Requirements

  • Technical knowledge of demountable showcase systems and exhibition lighting.
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly Excel.
  • Understanding of COSHH, H&S requirements, and construction knowledge.
  • Experience in set-works fabrication or as a senior design technician.
  • Prior experience in a museum, gallery, or theatre setting is preferred.
  • Experience with stock control and a keen interest in the Museum’s activities.
  • Ability to provide advice to senior stakeholders and work effectively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills and self-motivation are essential.

The British Museum is seeking an Assistant Production Manager for our Exhibitions Department. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, offering a competitive salary of £33,368 per annum.

The role: As Assistant Production Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating a wide range of administrative and technical duties. You will provide support with the installation and dismantling of exhibitions and displays, as well as assisting in the delivery of construction and technical aspects of the Museum's temporary exhibitions both on-site and off-site. You will ensure that all projects are completed within the specified timeframes to a high standard and within budget constraints. You will also manage lighting, showcase, conditioning equipment (and others as directed), coordinating essential equipment workstreams with Exhibition project team members, wider Museum colleagues and third-party contractors.

Requirements: You should have technical knowledge of demountable showcase systems, exhibition lighting and other exhibition equipment. IT skills, including Excel, are essential. You should have knowledge of COSHH, H&S requirements and other relevant regulations. Experience in set-works fabrication or as a senior design technician is required. Previous experience in a museum, art gallery, commercial gallery, or theatre is desirable. You should have previous stock control experience and a demonstrable interest in aspects of the Museum’s activities. The role is technical in nature as well as administrative, and knowledge of construction is essential. You must be able to provide advice to senior stakeholders and work well as part of team; self-motivated and able to use initiative; good communicator.
