The British Museum is seeking a Head of Capital Projects: Critical Infrastructure. This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 6 months initially, with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. The role is based in Bloombury, London.
The British Museum is a world-renowned institution, home to a collection that spans over two million years of human history and culture. The museum attracts around 6 million visitors annually and offers a competitive benefits package.
The role involves piloting a new programme of critical infrastructure (CI) – fabric and MEP projects while supporting the museum. This is a crucial role, involving working closely with senior stakeholders, supply-chain partners, and the support teams across the museum. The successful candidate will provide strategic management and professional programme management discipline and skill on all critical infrastructure capital development activity across the estate.
Key areas of responsibility include providing effective leadership, driving the delivery of capital planning, programming and budgets, asset and information management (BIM), from inception to final handover. The role also involves managing CD CI input on emerging organisational strategies and owning change programmes within the Capital Development section relating to CI activity.
The ideal candidate will have excellent management skills, a keen knowledge of legislative requirements for buildings, capital programming, projects and planning, and ideally have an understanding of building conservation. Strong experience of client-side Project Management of high profile, public facing Capital Projects in a leading public institution or similar large organisation is required.
