We are becoming a CIO to expand our reach and provide more support for the UK's photographic collections and heritage and seek an interim Treasurer with expertise in accountancy/charity finance to help us lead this change.

What will you be doing?

As the Interim Treasurer you will oversee the financial matters of the Photographic Collections Network in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The interim Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity. Our ideal candidate for the interim Treasurer would have accountancy qualification or an equivalent level of experience and expertise in accountancy and charity finance and reporting. A person working in Finance, Governance, Legal, with Charity experience either through an executive or previous Trustee role would be suitable. The candidate Ideally would have professional experience with organisational Governance and Financial management. A background in the photography or understanding of collections sector is not necessary but an enthusiasm and interest in the charitable sector is. What are we looking for?

Objectives: The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the Photographic Collections Network in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity.  Principal responsibilities of the Treasurer: 

Supporting our journey in becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation Overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the Director of Finance and Resources.  Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charity’s objects.  Being instrumental in the development and implementation of appropriate financial, reserves policy and investment policies.  Prepare and submit annual accounts to the Charity Commission along with the Trustee Report each year.

Person Specification Candidates should have: 

 An accountancy qualification or an equivalent level of experience and expertise in accountancy and charity finance and reporting.   Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.  Experience in risk management.  Charity experience either through an executive or previous Trustee role. Ideally with focus on Governance and Financial management.  Knowledge of fundraising in the context of trusts and foundations (if relevant).  Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.  Good communication and leadership skills, including the ability to explain financial information to all trustees, including those without financial or managerial experience.  Experience of building relationships with senior stakeholders.
