  • Role Summary:
    • Support the National Finds Adviser for Iron Age & Roman Coins within the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS).
    • Assist with the identification and recording of Iron Age and Roman coin finds.
    • Deliver training to Finds Liaison Officers, their assistants, interns, and volunteers.
    • Maintain the accuracy and consistency of coin records on the PAS database.
  • Role Requirements:
    • A first degree in ancient history, archaeology, classics, or a related subject, or equivalent.
    • Excellent knowledge of Roman coinage and some understanding of Iron Age coinage.
    • Experience in a university or museum environment is desirable.
    • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

The Museum is one of the leading visitor attractions and its world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies, the Admonitions Scroll, and the Amaravati sculptures.

The role - Assistant Finds Adviser for Iron Age & Roman Coins In this exciting new position, the post-holder will play a vital role in supporting the National Finds Adviser for Iron Age & Roman Coins with the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS). This will involve a wide variety of responsibilities within and in support of the PAS nationally. Key areas of responsibility include supporting Finds Liaison Officers (FLOs) as part of the PAS in the identification and recording of Iron Age and Roman coins, assisting in the delivery of training to FLOs, their assistants (FLAs), interns and volunteers in identifying and recording these coins, and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of Iron Age and Roman coin records on the PAS database (finds.org.uk/database) by editing as necessary.

Job requirements The successful candidate will possess a first degree in ancient history, archaeology, classics, a related subject, or equivalent. Excellent prior knowledge of Roman coinage is essential, with some understanding of Iron Age coinage and experience of work in a university or museum environment desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
