Volunteer Lead Community Tree Supporter

What will you be doing?

We want to make sure everybody in the UK has the chance to plant a tree. Through our Free Trees for Schools and Communities programme, we have already given away over 13 million free trees to schools and community groups across the UK. Our Lead Community Tree Supporter will use their supervisory and people skills to play a key part in launching this new volunteer network, making a tangible difference to the way we mobilise volunteers for our cause. You will be responsible for supporting with the recruitment and training of our network volunteers, supervising the network in your local area, identifying opportunities for development and engagement, tracking activity of the volunteers, overseeing monitoring reporting and collating data and feedback to ensure the Trust are offering an impactful, meaningful, and cost-effective scheme. Our Lead Volunteer roles often involve two days a week to fulfil, we are looking for someone that could potentially commit to the role for a minimum of two years should the pilot be extended. Full training will be provided. This is a remote role which you can do from home. This role is part of a pilot running in from April - October 2024 targeting key areas across the East of England, including North Humberside, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. We hope to continue building this new network into the future.

What are we looking for?

Experience of managing others is essential. Experience organising or attending a tree planting event or similar community events would be desirable but is not essential.  Knowledge of how to connect with relevant community groups and key stakeholders.  Ability to process information and data into reports.  The ability to independently, using phone or email, regularly engage with our Free Trees team.  Good IT skills will be needed when using our volunteer management platform Assemble (training is provided) which will provide you with a Woodland Trust email address to use for your volunteering role.  Enthusiasm and friendly attitude.  Confident and effective communication skills, with the ability to inspire others about the many positive benefits of planting trees, including environmental, health and social impacts, and the ability to inspire people to support our cause.  Basic knowledge of the environment, conservation, site assessment and tree planting principles are desirable but not essential.

In order for our Free Trees team to deliver the Woodland Trust’s ambitious targets, which include delivering more trees year on year to communities across the UK, forging connections with diverse audiences, providing excellent customer service and ensuring the continued health of our trees, your role as a network coordinator will be vital in supporting this work and helping us succeed! This is a key role supporting the Woodland Trust’s Free Trees for Schools and Communities Team, taking responsibility for the day to day operations of the volunteer network in your local area.
