What will you be doing?
The W J Mills Cottage Trust dates back to 1930 when its benefactor, William John Mills, acquired a number of properties in St Day. Now, over 90 years later, the charity has over 40 properties and is one of the largest almshouse charities in the South West. We currently have 5 trustees, one the great-granddaughter of WJ Mills, and are seeking one or two more dynamic individuals to join the team. The trust exists to provide housing for those in need in the local area. Although a large part of our work is property-based, we are a compassionate, caring group who always go the extra mile for our residents. There is a practical side to the organisation, much of which is conducted by the chair with support from two clerks, but there are also governance issues etc overseen by the board of trustees which meets four times a year at our office in St Day, near Redruth. Of course, there is contact between these meetings and the very occasional extra meeting. If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, you can contact us via Reach.
What are we looking for?
Principally enthusiasm and passion (social housing experience would be a bonus) Experience of social housing or property management.
What difference will you make?
This is an interesting role, helping ensure we can continue to support our residents. As a trustee, you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the charity.
