Background Reading Rugby Football Club (RRFC) is a rugby club established in 1898, and now provides community rugby for a wide range of players and age groups: Senior Men’s teams – 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, Veterans Women – 1sts Junior Boys – U12 to U16, Colts Junior Girls – U12, U14, U16 & U18 Minis – U6 to U11 boys and girls Walking Rugby Mixed Ability Rugby RRFC is based in Sonning, three miles from the centre of Reading, at extensive grounds including three full-sized pitches, changing rooms, physio room, gym, plus a bar and meeting rooms. RRFC as a business has a turnover of c£300k pa. Key revenue streams are membership subscriptions, bar & catering income, facilities hire & lettings, sponsorship. Staffing is a combination of a small team of paid employees and a large crew of volunteers. Financial management and accounting has recently moved across to Xero, from QuickBooks. The bar and catering operation uses an EPOS system and members have account cards, so most transactions are cashless. Reporting and support structure The Treasurer is one of the Officers of the club, the others being the Secretary and Chairman. The post reports to the Chairman. Purpose To manage RRFC’s finances, contribute to strategic business planning and review and recommend financial policies for the club to ensure that all finance work is appropriately carried out. Key aspects of the role 1. Lead on all financial issues Plan and monitor a budget each year; prepare and present the accounts for the end of year financial report, prepare and present Management Accounts and keep the committee informed of any trends and issues. 2. Manage Statutory Requirements Prepare and submit any relevant statutory documents, including VAT and tax. 3. Monitor commercial activity In conjunction with the Club House Manager record and monitor bar, shop, and gym income. Deal with suppliers, coordinate timely payments and ensure that all appropriate documentation is obtained. Working in conjunction with the membership secretary, monitor membership subscriptions income.

The club has over 900 members, and this role helps ensure the ongoing success and longevity of the club allowing it to support all members of the local community in enhancing their "rugby life" according to their ability and desires.
