Role Summary:

  • Provide culinary instruction to aspiring cooks using the innovative Courageous Cooking Method.
  • Prepare and assist with meals for the guests of La Peetch.
  • Lead small group classes focusing on various cooking techniques.
  • Contribute to the online platform, RecipeKick, with live or pre-recorded classes.

Role Requirements:

  • Proven culinary expertise and a zest for sharing knowledge.
  • Culinary degree or background in food science/studies.
  • Restaurant industry experience as a chef.
  • Teaching experience in a kitchen environment or through face-to-face/online platforms.
  • Collaborative spirit and positive attitude.
  • Ability to receive and apply feedback effectively.
  • English fluency and willingness to learn conversational French.

La Peetch, a historic vacation rental located in the hills of Provence, France and home of the Courageous Cooking School, is currently hiring for a chef instructor/ culinary assistant. The chef instructor/ culinary assistant will provide culinary instruction to our culinary students as well as provide meal preparation and assistance for guests staying at our property. This is a part-time, seasonal position with opportunities for advancement given the growing nature of our small business. Training can begin as early as June 2024 with classes offered seasonally from September-November 2024 and March-June 2025.

At the Courageous Cooking School our chef instructors lead classes where students learn foundational techniques, flavors and principles, not rigid steps. We call it the Courageous Cooking Method and it’s all about embracing what’s seasonal and abundant, whether from the farmer’s market or your fridge. This approach helps cooks gain skills and the freedom to trust their intuition.

Paid training in our methods and approach will be provided to qualified candidates. 

Qualifications: 

  • You are a delightful, engaging, sharp, competent and exciting chef. It’s clear that you know your stuff and you revel in sharing what you’ve learned about food and cooking.
  • You have a culinary background, a culinary degree, and/ or a degree in food science/ studies.
  • You have experience as a chef in the restaurant industry 
  • You have teaching experience (either in training people in a kitchen environment or teaching people face-to-face/online) and love engaging with an audience. 
  • You are collaborative and work well with others. You have a positive attitude and can-do spirit. 
  • You are infinitely coachable and can take feedback and apply it to your teaching methods.
  • You are fluent in English and are willing to learn French (you will not be teaching in French, but we expect all our France team members to speak the language conversationally). 
  • You have a warm, approachable, demeanor and are happy to interact with our guests and make them feel welcome and at home. 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach small group classes to our students focusing on various cooking techniques according to our pedagogy 
  • Participate in our online platform, RecipeKick, where you will occasionally add online content in the form of live or pre-recorded classes
  • Assist with meal preparation as requested by our culinary director
