What will you be doing?

We are looking for enthusiastic people who want to make a difference by becoming a trustee for Swindon City of Sanctuary.   We are a small registered charity, founded in 2016 and registered in 2018, operating in the Borough of Swindon and immediate area to promote a culture of welcome, inclusion and support for everyone in Swindon, with a focus on those seeking sanctuary.  We do this by bringing people and organisations in our community together, providing practical support through initiatives and projects, raising awareness and campaigning for social justice, contributing to the wider, national movement that is City of Sanctuary UK. Swindon City of Sanctuary (referred to throughout as The Charity) has grown steadily since it began, and is currently receiving core funding from The National Lottery Community Fund which will continue until 2026.   We currently have one full time Charity Manager and three part time Co-ordinators leading specific designated areas of our work.  We are supported by a diverse group of volunteers without whom we could not fulfil our Charitable Objects.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a person who is committed to supporting new arrivals to Swindon especially from the sanctuary seeking community.   We are looking for a range of skills from grant application to use of social media and education to raise the profile of people seeking sanctuary in our community.  We need someone who can work both alone on a project and as part of a team.  Please see the Job Description for full details about experience and qualities

What difference will you make?

By joining Swindon City of Sanctuary as a trustee you will be helping to make Swindon a welcoming place for new arrivals to our town.  You will be helping to educate the people of Swindon as to the importance of this welcome and the value that new arrivals make to our town.   You will also be standing alongside the national City of Sanctuary group to challenge and shape government legislation about issues to do with immigration.
