  • Role Summary:
    • Design robust SQL data models and maintain database tables and dashboards, primarily using Looker.
    • Write credit proposals that shape Monzo's underwriting policy.
    • Develop new lending strategies by analyzing data patterns and translating them into actionable insights.
    • Enhance credit models for cash flow forecasts and new lending cohort evaluations using SQL & Python.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine credit underwriting and manage portfolio risk.
  • Role Requirements:
    • Must have strong analytical skills and proficiency in SQL.
    • Experience in credit risk roles and familiarity with consumer lending products.
    • Capable of using data to inform business decisions.
    • Python coding and Looker platform experience is advantageous.
    • Strong communication skills and a collaborative team player.
    • Proactive, impact-driven, and eager to learn and grow within the credit domain.

About our Credit Strategy Team: 

At Monzo we believe there’s a better way to do banking - we care deeply about our customers, are innovative and execute quickly.

We’re looking to revolutionise the way people manage their finances by putting them in control and promoting their financial wellbeing. We aim to create a genuine feel-good factor when it comes to personal credit, and are looking for driven, analytical and creative individuals to help us achieve this goal.

We are scaling up our team to support the rapid growth and evolution of our portfolio. This role is an analyst within that team. Strong data and analytical skills are a must. Previous experience working in a credit risk role is essential, exposure to consumer lending products such as loans and credit cards a plus

Your day-to-day:   

  • Build robust data SQL models
  • Building, maintaining & responsible for the database tables and dashboards (mostly in Looker) that provide insights and promote rapid, data-driven decisions
  • Writing credit proposals which will be adopted as Monzo underwriting policy
  • Supporting the design and roll-out of new lending strategies by finding patterns in the data and translating these into insights
  • Operate and enhance our credit models to forecast cash flows and assess net present value of new lending cohorts (SQL & Python)
  • Work on projects to improve the accuracy and efficiency of our models
  • Working with people from engineering, marketing, product, risk and control to design and deliver initiatives to improve our credit underwriting, boost growth and/or manage portfolio risk

You should apply if:

  • You're impact driven and eager to have a real positive impact on the company, product, users and very importantly your colleagues as well
  • You're passionate about data and using that data to improve & inform business decisions
  • You have strong analytical and data capabilities, backed up by technical coding skills. SQL is a must-have, Python and Looker experience is a plus
  • You can convey problems and solutions using effective communication, both written and verbal
  • You work well collaborating in a team with diverse skill-sets and personality types
  • You have a self-starter mindset; you proactively identify issues and opportunities and tackle them without being told to do so

The Interview Process:

Our interview process involves 4 main stages: 

  1. Recruiter Call
  2. Initial Call with the hiring manager
  3. Take Home Task (SQL)
  4. Final Stage interviews (x3) consisting of a case study, role specific and values interview

Our average process takes around 3-4 weeks but we will always work around your availability.
