Role Summary:

The Role As the world’s greatest museum of art and design, the V&A enriches people’s lives by promoting the practice of design and increasing knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the designed world. The V&A holds exhibitions, and events covering and inspired by a diverse range of topics and cultures. Some of the most recent and upcoming include [exhibitions] The V&A Research Institute, National Art Library, and Archives Department, (VARINALA) has vacancies for four Apprentices to join the team in the National Art Library, providing access to the V&A’s collection of approximately 1 million printed, manuscript, and electronic resources.

The Apprentices work in the Library stores and on the public service counters, and are an essential part of the service the Department offers to the public. In the post, you will gain skills in customer service, information organisation and retrieval, basic preservation techniques, digitisation and object handling. You will also be working towards gaining the Library, Information & Archives Services Assistant L3 Standard 2024 – 2026 in partnership with Westminster Adult Education Service.

We are looking for someone with a real enthusiasm for working with the public, with good communication skills and the ability to handle books and paper objects with care. An interest in information provision, art and design and the cultural heritage sector would be beneficial.
