Role Description
Based out of our brand new Gloucester office, the Grid Connections Manager will lead the connection and commissioning of new grid connections as part of new renewable energy project construction. This role will work closely with several teams in Low Carbon including Portfolio, Engineering, Procurement, Development and O&M, as well as external ICP EPC and DNOs. You will co-ordinate activity of internal and external teams to ensure timely grid connection, energisation and commissioning of projects to full export capacity and hand over to operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
The Grid Connections Manager will travel between Low Carbon offices and sites and responsibilities will include:
- Supporting projects in construction and ensuring projects are commissioned and exporting power as early as possible
- Close liaison with the Low Carbon Grid Delivery team who secure grid connections at the development phase of projects
- Review contractor’s designs, studies, installation and commissioning schedules to make sure grid connection activity does not delay project construction and energisation
- Ensure design interfaces are clear, optimised and fully wrapped in the suite of grid connection contracts ICP/DNO/EPC/MOP/SCADA
- Review of 3rd party reporting and commissioning schedules on a regular basis, and optimise to deconflict construction and commissioning activities
- Identify and implement technology innovations to accelerate our net zero goals
- Develop our engineering and construction practices to drive down the carbon content of our projects as we build out our portfolio
Skills & Experience
- Existing grid connection experience for renewable energy projects is essential
- Experience of project development, construction and operational engineering activity
- Degree qualified in electrical engineering (or similar), or significant experience in the electricity transmission field
- TA/OE, IPP, EPC, DNO ICP background
- Technically astute, with a good understanding of the grid connection process from beginning to end
- A clear communicator who can partner multi-disciplinary teams, in-house and externally to have the impact we need to deliver our ambitious goals
- Able to review technical and commercial proposals, tenders and negotiate technical elements of contracts
- Understanding of the safety rules and controls necessary to build, commission and energise utility scale electrical generation plant, and oversee the work of others adhering to safety rules.
- Full UK Driving licence
