- Strategic management of ESA's patent portfolio
- Guiding patent prosecution processes
- Conducting thorough portfolio analysis and evaluation

The Engineering Patent Portfolio Manager will be reporting to the Head of the Innovation Services Section, Commercialisation Services Department, Directorate of Commercialisation, Industrial Policy and Competitiveness (D/CIC). The Commercialisation Services Department supports the industrialisation and commercialisation of space products and services, scale-up on global markets, as well as access to investments and finance for the European space industry.
As Engineering Patent Portfolio Manager, you will be in charge of the management of the ESA patents portfolio. In doing so, you will interface with persons at various levels inside and outside the Agency. Your tasks and responsibilities will include: Strategic Patent Portfolio Management, Patent Prosecution, Portfolio Analysis and Evaluation, Prior art and freedom-to-operate analysis, Collaboration and Communication, and Patents Group organisation and reporting.
The ideal candidate should have a master's degree in engineering science and/or intellectual property and at least 5 years of experience of managing a patent portfolio or being involved in the management and licensing of the portfolio. Strong knowledge of patenting procedures (in particular PCT and EP) and sound knowledge of patent laws and regulations are required. Solid communication skills with the ability to interface and network with people at all levels and a demonstrated capacity for strong self-motivation and organisation are also necessary.
