  • Responsible for preparing and reconciling financial information to support management.
  • Generate high-quality financial reports for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage monthly financial close, journal entries, intercompany reconciliations, and insurance submissions.
  • Handle VAT returns, assist in budget preparation, and support annual financial statement preparation.
  • Collaborate within the finance department and contribute to the organization's general duties.
  • Qualified accountant with minimum two years post-qualification experience.
  • UK VAT Reporting and financial close process experience required.
  • Proficient in UK statutory financial statements under FRS102.
  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience with charity financial statements, charity VAT, and ERP systems (like NetSuite/Adaptive) is desirable.

Role: Accountant (Qualified)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Location: Hybrid, with a requirement to work from HALO’s Thornhill, Dumfries & Galloway office 1-2 times per week

Salary: Up to £50k (dependent on experience)

About the Role:

As a technically proficient financial accountant in HALO’s central finance team, you will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and reconciling financial information to support the financial management of the organisation. You will prepare high quality financial information and analysis for internal and external reporting, for a range of financial and non-financial audiences. A high level of detail and quality will be required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively ensure the monthly financial close is completed within agreed deadlines.
  • Preparation of monthly journal calculations, schedules, and associated reconciliations.
  • Intercompany recharges and reconciliation.
  • Monthly data control checks, reporting on and escalating any blockages across HALO’s global programmes.
  • Monthly insurance submissions and supporting of the annual insurance renewal process.
  • Monthly submission of actual results from our ERP system (NetSuite) into our budgeting system (Adaptive).
  • Maintain data on our budgeting system.
  • Preparation of VAT returns and associated analysis and reconciliation.
  • Support preparation of annual budget and quarterly reforecasts for HQ departments.
  • Periodic review of HQ Budget V Actuals including analysis and commentary.
  • Support the annual preparation of financial statements in line with FRS102 and Charities SORP.
  • Completion of monthly, quarterly and annual statistical forms.
  • Collaborate with and support colleagues across the finance department.

  • Work within the framework of HALO’s core values, promoting its ethos and mission statement.
  • Work towards achieving programme and/or group business plan objectives.
  • Ensure familiarity with and adhere to all HALO policies and procedures and keep informed of HALO activities.
  • To discharge duties and responsibilities under HALO’s Health and Safety Procedures which may include Risk and COSHH Assessments and participation in evacuation procedures as necessary.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Must be a qualified accountant.
  • Minimum of two years post qualification experience.
  • UK VAT Reporting experience.
  • Experience of significant participation in the monthly and annual financial close process.
  • Experience with preparation of UK statutory financial statements under FRS102.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience with preparation of UK charity financial statements under FRS102 and Charity SORP.
  • Charity VAT experience.
  • Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial systems and budgeting systems (NetSuite/Adaptive/other)
