What will you be doing?
Insight Outreach is seeking new Trustees to support the growth of our charity. We need fresh perspectives to support us on our journey. As Trustee, what will your roles and responsibilities be?
Attend fortnightly meetings (online) with other Trustees, and quarterly board meetings. Own and develop elements of our strategic growth plan, champion our programmes, with examples including:
Work closely with our Head of Development to refine our operational programme delivery. Implement new methods of improving existing processes in volunteer management, team organisation and more. Creating innovative ways for us to make sure every eligible student hears about what Insight Outreach can offer them.
We always work as a team at Insight Outreach. You will be working closely with the other trustees who will support your efforts along the way. You will mostly work remotely, with occasional face to face meetings if your time allows. The opportunities identified are varied, unique and challenging. We are looking for a dynamic thinker. You will have every opportunity to contribute to what we do and shape how we do it. Have a read of our 2022-2023 Brochure (attached as a supporting document) to find out more about us!
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with the following skills, experiences, or interests:
Passionate about social mobility, fair access to educational opportunities, and creating a thriving, equal society where a young person’s future reflects their talent and not their background. Awareness of the experiences of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds applying to and studying at top universities, and then applying to top jobs, either first hand or through previous work/volunteering experience. Appreciation for the power of mentoring in an educational or career setting to develop and transform the lives of young people. Track record of success in supporting either charitable or non-charitable organisations to grow, including:
Developing corporate strategies to improve resource use and allocation Refining programme delivery processes Improving volunteer recruitment and management Leading long-term projects
Strong operational and management skills, including managing teams and planning projects. Entrepreneurial and independent thinking (e.g. creating own leads) Ability to solve complex problems Excellent interpersonal skills, lateral thinking and empathy
What difference will you make?
Your input will help us thrive and make our long term growth sustainable at a critical time. Your technical expertise in bid writing will be greatly valued as well as your relationship skills that will enable us to raise awareness and build networks. Your input will directly impact our progress against three major strategic objectives:
Grow our funding to be able to hire our first FTE staff member. As we grow as a charity, we want to be able to hire a passionate, dedicated Operations Manager to work full-time on running our charity. Currently, we are run by volunteers in their spare time. This reflects our volunteers' passion for the charity - but we know it isn't sustainable for growth. Double our student cohort from 120 to 240. We are ready to scale up our offering to increase our impact. Your contribution will expand our outreach programmes with schools enabling us to develop a continued pipeline of academically able and ambitious students to join the OMS. Developing our careers programme for our alumni. Working across the Trustee team, you work will help us share our vision and mission with potential partners, so we can fulfil our ambition of not only helping students to "get in" to top universities, but also to "get on” and develop the skills they need to secure top jobs. We need to ensure that our alumni have parity of experience with their better established peers whilst at University - in terms of networking and internships opportunities. Your contribution will enable us to fund valuable career development for our cohorts who will not typically have - within their homes or within their networks - targeted careers consultation advice on which to build upon.
