The British Museum is seeking a Collection Manager, Care & Access, based at BM_ARC, Reading. This is a full-time, permanent role, offering a salary of £31,395 per annum (pay review pending).

The role: As the Collection Manager, Care & Access, you will develop, lead, and manage the work of a team of Assistant Collection Managers within the Collection Care department. Your role will involve delivering Museum projects and daily care of the collection at the storage facility at BM_ARC. You will work with colleagues across the Museum and contribute to the planning and supervision of activities connected with the care of, and access to, the collection by BM staff and a range of external audiences. Your focus will be primarily on the maintenance of stores, object handling, movement, documentation, and operation of the research spaces. You may also be involved in the preparation of objects for display and loans including packing and working on deadline-driven storage and larger scale object move projects.

Job requirements: You should have a demonstrable interest in aspects of the British Museum’s collection, manual dexterity, IT skills, understanding and appreciation of materials and objects. Practical experience of hand tools and workshop operation and equipment is required. Familiarity with databases, slinging and heavy lifting training, full UK driving licence, fork lift licence and other lifting and access equipment are also necessary. You should have the ability to manage and motivate a team, manage budgets, timetables and deliver a varied programme of work.
