What will you be doing?

Research Consultant Volunteer Role at AfriKindness AfriKindness is a pioneering nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of neurodiverse children and young people, especially within Black and minority communities. With our mission to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical community outreach, we aim to develop informed, compassionate programs that respond directly to the needs of those we serve. We are currently seeking one to two passionate Research Consultant Volunteers to join us in this transformative phase. As we move into the initial stages of research and program delivery, there is a compelling need to collect, analyze, and interpret data that not only measures our impact but also guides future initiatives. Role Overview: The Research Consultants will play a critical role in designing and implementing a comprehensive research and evaluation program. This will involve working closely with a seasoned expert in neurodiversity research to delve into areas such as the disparities in autism diagnosis among Black and minority populations—an issue our research associate has recently explored with significant findings. Building on this foundation, the role will extend into new primary research projects tailored to update and expand our understanding of local perceptions and the specific needs of neurodiverse individuals. Key Responsibilities: The role is a Supervisory/Advisory role and you will support our research associate in 

the design and execution of research projects focused on neurodiversity and community needs assessment. analyzing existing research and generating new insights to inform program development and policy advocacy. helping prepare reports and presentations that clearly communicate research findings to a variety of stakeholders, including community leaders and partner organizations. engaging with the community to gather feedback and enhance the relevance and impact of our research.

What are we looking for?

Time Commitment: The research and evaluation activities are scheduled from spring 2024 to summer 2025. We value consistency and would prefer volunteers who can commit to the entire project duration. However, we are also open to volunteers who can contribute to specific phases of the project, such as initial program design or the final analysis stages. What You Bring:

A strong academic or professional background in research, ideally with a focus on neurodiversity, social sciences, public health, or a related field. A CAMHS professional will be great Experience or a keen interest in neurodiversity, community health, or minority issues and expertise and experience in research and evaluation gained in a professional or academic setting. Excellent IT, analytical and communication skills. A collaborative spirit and a commitment to making a difference in the community.

Drive Organizational Growth: Your work will directly contribute to the foundational knowledge base of AfriKindness, helping to steer the organization's future directions in programming and advocacy based on evidence and community feedback.
