The British Museum is seeking a Collection Manager for Loans and Display. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Bloomsbury with occasional travel to other sites in Reading, Wiltshire and London.
The role: Collection Managers will lead and manage the work of a team of Assistant Collection Managers within the Collection & Public Engagement Directorate in delivering Museum projects and daily care of the collection. This role will primarily focus on the preparation of objects for display and loans including mount making, object handling, installation and packing, and may also include object movement, and documentation, the maintenance of stores and permanent displays, operation of study rooms, and couriering.
Job requirements: Good general education including GCSEs or equivalent. Demonstrable interest in aspects of the British Museum’s collections Manual dexterity; IT skills; understanding and appreciation of materials and objects. Practical experience of object/ art handling and installation in a museum or similar environment Ability to manage and motivate a team, manage budgets, timetables and deliver a varied programme of work.
