What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Trustee who can combine membership of the Board of Trustees with a Part Time Health Information Manager role. As a Trustee you’ll

Ensure we continue to operate within our charitable remit (the advancement of health and the prevention of sickness) Review and approve our Annual Report and Accounts Support and provide advice on our work Attend (virtual) Board meetings

As Health Information Manager you’ll use your experience to manage our health information website (www.agewatch.org.uk) to ensure:

A schedule to review and update existing articles on a four yearly cycle. The review and updating of existing articles by volunteer researchers The publication of updated articles on the website Potential gaps in the health topics we cover are identified and new, evidence-based articles sourced.

The website provides evidence-based information to help people increase their chances of living a long and healthy life. The quality of the information provided led to NHS Information Standard accreditation and the site is currently viewed by over 120,000 visitors a year. You’ll be assisted by an Editor and a small team of volunteer researchers, with opportunities to recruit more volunteer researchers when needed. We’ve consciously chosen to operate as a virtual, voluntary organisation. This means that, as a Trustee, you won’t need to worry about staffing or premises issues or about fundraising, and there is minimal bureaucracy. Meetings are usually via Zoom to enable participation as widely as possible. 

What are we looking for?

As a Trustee

Enthusiasm for our guiding principle that prevention is better than cure and our belief that health in the UK should be more than a postcode lottery. Ability to exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member. Willingness to bring energy, expertise and commitment to the role, and potentially broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. Commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

  As Part Time Health Information Manager 

A postgraduate health-related qualification At least 3 years’ professional experience of providing health information in the UK An interest in and commitment to staying up to date with developments in health information An ability to communicate research findings to a lay audience in easy to understand English Good organisational skills and the ability to coordinate the work of a small team of graduate volunteer researchers. 

Ideally we are looking for someone able and willing to commit 7 - 10 hours per week.

This is important in its own right whilst also providing an evidence base to underpin and complement our policy work as a health think tank.
