What will you be doing?

About the Volunteer Facilities Assistant role: Our Sea Cadet Unit provides training for many young people, delivered by adult volunteers. The safe upkeep and maintenance of our building to ensure it is always a comfortable and welcoming environment for our cadets, volunteers, parents and visitors is an important and fulfilling role. The tasks of a Facilities Assistant include but are not restricted to the following:

manage and/or undertake the routine maintenance tasks of the Unit manage and maintain stock levels of consumables monitor and report any larger work or repairs needed to the Unit Management Team carry out smaller maintenance tasks where appropriate

What difference will you make?

As our Unit Facilities Trustee, you will be an integral member of our volunteer team, ensuring our building is ready to deliver the sea cadet experience to local young people. As a Sea Cadet young people flourish, learn key life skills and achieve qualifications in a range of areas, all of which boosts their confidence as they prepare for the rest of their lives.  Sea Cadets offers a chance to broaden life experiences – whether that’s challenges and experiences like rowing around the UK, sailing on a tall ship, crewing a yacht around the Scottish islands (most of which is heavily subsidised) or meeting weekly to work together at their unit. It gives them a chance to explore their abilities and test their skills, as they work together as a team.  Sea cadets learn a wide range of skills with us, from watersports to leadership, first aid and seamanship skills such as knots, navigation and marine engineering.  Our incredible volunteer support offers valuable role models and mentors for young people,and our units provide a sense of family and belonging. We are often a lifeline to young people who are bullied at school, offering stability and security to those in foster care and we are a pathway to meaningful careers and further education for those that struggle at school.
