What will you be doing?
Do you share our passion and commitment to helping those with neurodiverse minds recognise their strengths and talents through STEM activities? Are you experienced in the charity sector and eager to provide strategic leadership for this emerging charity as it navigates its next phase of growth?
If the answer to these questions is YES, please read on… About the Sanjay Mortimer Foundation (SMF) Founded in memory of Sanjay, who was always open about this own diagnosis, ADHD, and who in his short life attained legendary engineering status, the SMF recognises that neurodivergent minds often think creatively; they can be analytical, highly focused, excellent problem solvers, have high attention to detail, and think outside the box. They may struggle at school as traditional education systems focus on skills that neurodiverse students find challenging. This can result in them becoming discouraged and disinterested in learning. The SMF’s mission is to help those with neurodiverse minds find their strengths and talents though STEM activities. We support these individuals with strength-based learning (focusing on the area they genuinely enjoy). This can provide an outlet and help them to realise where their talents lie, thus empowering them, building their confidence, and giving them belief in their abilities, so that they may go on to pursue a career where they can thrive. Chair The Sanjay Mortimer Foundation (SMF) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to serve as our Trustee Chair. With significant progress achieved over the past 18 months, including our Charity Commission registration in December 2023, the SMF is poised for growth. As Chair, you will play a crucial role in providing leadership, fostering growth, and guiding our organisation towards a strong and positive future. With a team consisting of three Trustees, a Treasurer, an Interim Chair, and a CEO, you will collaborate closely with key stakeholders to ensure the SMF achieves its strategic ambitions and vision.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who embodies our mission and values, demonstrating a strong empathy for our cause. Your sharp business acumen and robust ethical values will drive decision-making and governance, while your commitment to inclusivity and diversity will enrich our organisation's culture and impact. As our new Chair, you will need to bring the required experience and energy to ensure that we can achieve all that we hope to achieve. You will evidence integrity and the highest standards regarding honesty, reliability, and commitment to the role, with the ability to command trust and respect.
Personal gravitas, credibility, and impact to lead a significant organisation of national importance. Significant senior strategic leadership experience and a successful track record of achievement throughout your career. Relevant knowledge of developments within the neurodiversity, education &/or STEM space would be extremely helpful. Extensive contacts and networks within the neurodiversity, education &/or STEM space would also be helpful. Demonstrable experience of having chaired, together with experience or a broad understanding of governance and working as part of a non-executive board. Entrepreneurial, with the ability to successfully navigate strategic, financial, operational, and reputational challenges. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities to build and sustain positive relationships with key partners and stakeholders to achieve organisational objectives. Ability to commit the necessary time and effort to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events outside of office hours.
What difference will you make?
This is a key role within the SMF and your previous trustee experience, contacts and leadership will ensure growth for the charity so it may continue to provide the much needed support to our beneficiaries.
