Role Summary:Conserve Stone Wall Paintings, Mosaics, and other artifacts in the museum's collection.Prepare objects for loans, exhibitions, and permanent displays.Engage in projects focused on the care of collections in storage.Document, survey, and analyze collection data; support public events.Collaborate with department colleagues and contribute to outreach activities.Develop new conservation methods and assist with funding ideas.Advocate for the museum and adapt to its changing priorities.

Role Requirements:Degree-level conservation qualification, specializing in Stone, Wall Paintings, and Mosaics.Understanding of material deterioration and preventive conservation principles.Knowledge of conservation theory, ethical practices, and health and safety.Proficiency in IT systems for documentation and digital imaging.Museum or heritage sector experience, with effective communication and teamwork skills.

About the role: The postholder will contribute to the care of the collection through a combination of interventive and preventive measures in support of the museum's operating plan, and to proactively engage with the Public Programme activities of the Department of Collection Care. The role requires the post holder to have good general knowledge in the care and conservation of objects, with an emphasis on working on Stone sculpture, Wall Paintings, and Mosaics conservation.

Key areas of responsibility: To contribute to the conservation of Stone Wall Paintings and Mosaics in the collection. To contribute to the preparation of objects for loan, exhibition, and permanent display. To contribute to the care of the collection through dedicated projects on collections in store. To assist with the care of the collection through documentation, surveys, data collection, analysis, and support at public events. To work collaboratively with colleagues within the department. To contribute to the conservation of materials/object types outside of own specialism as necessary. To contribute to the development of new preventive or interventive measures. To contribute to the department's outreach activities through public speaking and publishing, To assist with the development of ideas for potential funding bids. To act as an advocate for the museum. To work flexibly in line with museum priorities. Other duties as assigned.

About you: Recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent with emphasis on the conservation of Stone Wall Paintings and Mosaics conservation. Understanding of mechanisms involved in material deterioration. Knowledge of contemporary principles and practice in preventive conservation. Understanding of conservation theory and ethical decision making. Relevant knowledge of health and safety. Good computing skills and proficiency with a range of IT systems, including documentation including digital imaging/scanning, etc. Practical museum or heritage sector employment (public or private sector) during training placements or courses. Open and effective communicator with good spoken and written English. Able to demonstrate collaborative team working and communication skills.
