Role Summary:

  • Provide comprehensive on-site and remote ICT support to staff.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ICT infrastructure, including networks and conferencing systems.
  • Monitor security alerts and respond to incidents.
  • Implement information security technical controls.
  • Manage ICT asset inventory.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on technology use.
  • Collaborate with international teams and offer innovative solutions.

Role Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for technology and continuous learning.
  • Understanding of Microsoft 365, Windows, and networking.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and under pressure.
  • Desirable skills include email server administration, Microsoft Azure, network deployment, and information security.
  • Ideally holds an ICT qualification at HNC level or higher, but not mandatory.
  • Appreciation for teamwork and innovation.

For over thirty years, we have been saving lives and helping war-torn communities recover, by making their land safe. Our mission is to protect lives and restore the livelihoods of those affected by conflict.

HALO is known for its work to clear landmines, but we also lead on dealing with unexploded ordnance, from bullets to aircraft bombs, and we educate communities to keep them safe. In addition, we build safe arms stores and systems for securing guns. HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 12,000 staff in 30 countries and territories.

About the role:

Are you passionate about technology and eager to learn? This is your chance to join a close-knit team making a real difference. The HALO Trust, a sector-leading humanitarian NGO, is seeking an enthusiastic ICT Assistant to join our team in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

Working under the supervision of the Deputy Head of ICT you will provide friendly and effective on site and remote ICT support to HALO staff across the UK and 30+ overseas programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist HALO staff with all their tech needs
  • Maintain and troubleshoot our ICT infrastructure, keeping everything running smoothly. (i.e networks, audio and video conferencing systems, backups, etc.)
  • Monitor and investigate security alerts, and respond to information security incidents
  • Assist in the implementation of information security technical controls to help ensure that internal information security policies, and data protection laws are upheld
  • Maintain inventory of all ICT assets
  • Design and deliver training sessions to empower staff with tech skills.
  • Collaborate with in-country programme teams, providing guidance, support, and training.
  • Think outside the box and propose innovative solutions to improve our systems.
  • Any other duties allocated by the line manager or senior management following consultation with the post holder

Requirements

Desirable skills/experience (apply even if you don’t have them!):

  • Email server administration
  • Microsoft Azure Active Directory
  • Enterprise networks deployment and maintenance
  • File storage and backup
  • Windows Server 2016 or newer and associated services, including DHCP, Active Directory, and File Server
  • Information security standards and practices in enterprise environments
  • Computer hardware assembly/disassembly
  • Writing concise documentation and to review and improve existing documentation
  • Microsoft Exchange Online
  • SharePoint Online
  • Cisco Meraki networks
  • Android operating systems
  • Apple operating systems (MacOS, osX)
  • Ubuntu 18.04 or newer
  • Cloud infrastructure management (GCP/AWS/Azure) with focus on VM deployment and backup
  • Ability to take effective and creative approaches to problem solving
  • Confidence to challenge existing working practices and offer ideas
  • Relevant ICT qualification at HNC level or higher
  • Previous experience is a plus, but not required! We value your enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
