The Role As a Panel Member for the Acceptance in Lieu (AIL) Panel, you will be part of a subcommittee advising the Secretary of State for DCMS, and the Ministers in the devolved governments, on items offered to the nation under the Acceptance in Lieu and Cultural Gifts Schemes. This role requires expertise in European Old Master paintings c.1300-c.1800, with a particular knowledge of the Italian School being advantageous but not essential. You will also need to assess the physical condition of artworks, have a working knowledge of the current art market and valuations, and be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of relevant holdings in public institutions in the UK.
Job Requirements This is a voluntary position for a fixed term of four years, with the possibility of reappointment. The time commitment is up to 15 days a year, including monthly meetings and some preparatory work. The role is based in London, with the option to join virtually. Some travel may be required with expenses paid.
Benefits This is a voluntary role, with UK expenses reimbursed. An allowance is available to freelance/self-employed AIL Panel Members. Members can claim £50 per hour up to £350 per day, including travel time.
