What will you be doing?
This role involves supporting weekly 3-hour sessions, including a 2-hour class and additional time for preparation and wrap-up. The ideal candidate will assist the main instructor in engaging and motivating students, helping to foster a passion for app development and coding. Key Responsibilities:
Assist with weekly 3-hour sessions, including 2 hours of classroom support and 1 hour of preparation and wrap-up. Help the main instructor guide students through the process of creating a game app using provided materials. Assist with installing necessary applications, reading and troubleshooting code, and supporting students with basic technical issues. Help the main instructor engage and motivate students, particularly those from challenging backgrounds, to develop an interest in learning and app development. Support the main instructor in adapting teaching methods to cater to the needs of students currently in the justice system. Help create a positive and encouraging learning environment to assist students in overcoming reluctance and building confidence in their abilities.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in educational settings, especially working with young people aged 16-17. Background in supporting students who are in the justice system or from challenging backgrounds. Basic familiarity with creating and developing game apps.
What are we looking for?
Technical Proficiency:
Basic IT skills, with a fundamental understanding of how to read and troubleshoot code. Familiarity with coding languages such as JavaScript, Dart, and Flutter is beneficial but not required. Basic understanding of game development is a plus.
Educational Experience:
Experience in assisting with teaching or tutoring, particularly in IT or related fields. Ability to follow provided educational materials and support the main instructor in conveying concepts to students.
Soft Skills:
Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong motivational skills to help engage and inspire young people. Empathy and understanding when working with students from challenging backgrounds. Ability to support the management of challenging behaviors and maintain a positive classroom environment.
Additional Requirements:
Must be available for the full duration of the 5-week course. Willingness to potentially transition into a more permanent role based on performance and program needs.
