What will you be doing?

Read Easy Sheffield is an entirely volunteer-led , managed and delivered organisation that supports adults who struggle with reading through one-to-one coaching to achieve their potential (in-person or online). We are affiliated to national ReadEasy which supplies the online platform (Microsoft Sharepoint) to coordinate the overall operation. Skilled management team volunteers and reading coaches may nonetheless lack the confidence and knowledge to make the most efficient use of the IT tools required to work effectively. Your role is to use your coaching and mentoring skills to be on hand to support with tasks like setting up email accounts, using video calling software and overseeing permissions and access to the secure online document storage system which is essential to our smooth-running. You will be part of our committed and enthusiastic Management Team which meets monthly online so you will get a clear sense of how your efforts are contributing to our mission to the vulnerable adults we support. Please note some in-person support in Sheffield will be needed. NB: Excellent "People Skills" are much more important than advanced IT knowledge.

What are we looking for?

1. Confidence in using IT and experience of using a range of devices and software, specifically including Zoom and Microsoft teams 2. Excellent coaching and mentoring skills including patience and ability to understand the perspective of non-experts who need support to build their confidence and understanding of the systems they are using. Some of this will be in-person within Sheffield 3.A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others with a commitment to equality and diversity so that you can make everyone feel valued and included 4. Open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the team 5. Good communication and people skills with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality. 6. Willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures

What difference will you make?

We are young (established October 21) but we already supporting 10 reading pairs and have great potential to expand to read as many adults in Sheffield who struggle with reading to achieve their potential . By coaching and mentoring our volunteer team to develop their IT skills you will directly contribute to this vital work.
