What will you be doing?
The Extinction Rebellion UK Press Team manages relationships with journalists and the media (TV, radio, print and online), driving the national conversation on climate, activism, and the need for a Citizens' Assembly. We are looking for somebody to join the team who can offer 1-2 days per week to
Respond to press queries, including placing and briefing spokespeople for print, radio and TV interviews Work with action teams, writing press releases, contacting journalists, preparing talking points for spokespeople Liaise with the social media team to align on messaging and publicising of actions Pitch and write opinion pieces and get our spokes team into the media Build relationships with journalists and keep them informed of XR UK's work
What are we looking for?
Writing and research skills Comfortable speaking to journalists Public relations or journalism experience
Familiarity with MailChimp and WordPress or willing to learn
What difference will you make?
Extinction Rebellion is the largest grassroots climate movement in the UK. When XR burst onto the streets of London in 2019, we went with the science and demanded action by 2025. That deadline is almost upon us, and yet we continue to career towards climate and ecological disaster. Our Third Demand - a Citizens' Assembly on Climate and Ecological Justice - is more urgent than ever, and with a new government in Westminster, now is the time to keep building the pressure. As a member of the press team, you are part of our public face, influencing the public conversation on climate activism, XR, and the need for a Citizens' Assembly.
