What will you be doing?
The role: This is a new position, supporting the Chair as we continue to develop our Board. A full role description appears below. The organisation: Humanimal Trust drives collaboration between vets, doctors and researchers so that all humans and animals benefit from sustainable and equal medical progress but not at the expense of an animal’s life. This is One Medicine. Humanimal Trust was established in May 2014 by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick, known globally as a ground-breaking orthopaedic-neuro veterinary surgeon. As a vet he experienced personally the deep divide between human and animal medicine and saw how unfair this was. Frustrated by the lack of opportunities to share what he was learning from day to day practice, or to benefit from relevant learning from human medicine, he decided to create the platform himself.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, because of the nature of Humanimal Trust's work and the high profile of this role, the new Vice Chair should have a science or research background, whether veterinary or human medical and ideally be a qualified medic or vet. Significant experience of governance in a charity or public sector organisation would be of great value in this role. Familiarity with the sector, its legal frameworks and guidance would also be strongly desirable. Willingness to represent the charity in public settings, speaking at conferences and events, appearing in the media etc. would be a strong advantage in this role.
What difference will you make?
As an officer and part of our Board you will be leading our efforts to achieve a world where One Medicine is the norm - where human and animal patients benefit equitably and at the same time from scientific advances. As part of this experienced Board you will support our staff and volunteer team as we enter our second decade as a charity, founded in 2014 by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick.
