TVS is a charity working with rural schools in South Africa. We want to connect with people online to let them know about our work, and to ask for their support. Can you help us to do this, using your skills and experience in social media.

What will you be doing?
We are ace at education but don't have the necessary communication skills to raise money to increase support for our project. We need somebody with the skills and experience to improve the charity’s online presence, develop a social media strategy and use this to cultivate new members and increase engagement on a continuing basis. We have no paid staff in the UK and Trustees take on different roles. We would give you some induction but after that you would work remotely, in your own time, liaising with a lead member on our management committee about deadlines and targets. You would also liaise with our staff and volunteers in South Africa with a view to collecting information and material from them and setting up a network of supporters there, as a means of making the project become more sustainable. In time, we hope that there will be an opportunity for you to visit South Africa yourself to learn more about the project and develop a blog so that you can communicate your experiences firsthand. We see this as an ongoing role and would very much like to attract somebody who will stay on with us, perhaps as a Trustee.
What are we looking for?
Our ideal volunteer will have a good professional track record in social media and e-marketing with the ability to generate new ideas and deliver them. As our charity works in South Africa it would be good to have somebody with some knowledge and understanding of other cultures, but this is not essential - you will soon find out! We hope that you will develop a passion for the work that we do that will match our own and enable you to communicate this to others.
What difference will you make?
Like all charities we need money to be able to fulfil our mission but in order to raise money we have to reach people and show them why what we do is important. We are working to change the lives of extremely poor children in remote rural communities - something most people in this country have no knowledge or understanding of - so explaining it to them is vitally important. Although we are all connected now it is extremely difficult for a small charity to build up its donor base and to reach new markets. We need to speak to a new, younger constituency. Our board and management committee just don't have the skills to be able to do this. If you joined us in this role your contribution would make a massive difference to our ability to continue to develop the work that we have been doing for the last fifteen years to provide opportunities and life-chances for our children.
