  • Lead sport psychology support for the U19 Women’s World Cup preparation and performance.
  • Collaborate with the U19 Staff Management team and provide on-tour support in Malaysia.
  • Work with England Women’s Sport Science & Medicine and Wellbeing teams for optimal player support.
  • Assist the Head Coach in maintaining a psychologically informed environment.
  • Contribute to the post-tournament review process of the U19 programme.
  • Registration with HCPC, BPS Chartered Status or equivalent, and postgraduate degree in Sport Psychology.
  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Sport Psychology or Sports Science.
  • Experience with elite adolescent athletes and high-performance teams, particularly in major tournaments.
  • Ability to work cohesively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, with excellent communication skills.
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing situations and a full driving license.
  • Enhanced DBS check is required.
  • Desirable: Experience in cricket or women’s team sports and support at major international events.

Competitive day rate and reasonable travel expenses are part of the package for this role.

PURPOSE

An exciting opportunity to take on the role of England Women U19 Sport Psychologist for our U19 squad as they prepare for and compete at the U19 World Cup in January 2025.

In combination with the England Women and domestic SS&M teams, this role will lead on the provision of sport psychology support to the England Women U19 squad during the preparation and performance phases of the second edition of the U19 Women’s World Cup.

The England Women U19 overseas tour to Malaysia will provide opportunities in an inspirational development environment with competitive exposure at International level for players deemed with the highest potential to play for England Women in the future, as well as players with key potential to further their career within the domestic game.

The role will require availability for weekend camps in preparation for the U19 World Cup, and travelling as part of the EW U19 Management staff during the World Cup period in January. Camp dates will be discussed at interview, but these will run from the end of October 2024.

YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead on the delivery of sport psychology support for England Women’s U19 squad in the preparation and performance phases of the U19 Women’s World Cup, to maximise player psychological development and experience as part of their inclusion on the programme.

  • Engage in planning and camp-based delivery with the U19 Staff Management team, and provide in-situ support for the World Cup tour in Malaysia.

  • Work collaboratively with England Women’s Sport Science & Medicine team and be a point of contact for domestic SS&M team Sport Psychologists, to ensure players receive optimal levels of support.

  • Work closely with England Women’s Wellbeing team (including Doctor, Clinical Psychology and Safeguarding and Personal Development and Welfare practitioners) to ensure appropriate mental health and wellbeing support.

  • Work with the Head Coach in overseeing and assisting the delivery of a psychologically informed environment, and in constructively addressing performance challenges.

  • Contribute to a robust review process of the England Women U19 programme following the completion of the series.

YOU’LL HAVE

Essential criteria:

  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

  • British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Status and/ or Qualification in Sport & Exercise Psychology (QSEP) Stage 2, or British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route (SEPAR) (or equivalent)

  • Postgraduate degree in Sport Psychology

  • Undergraduate degree in Psychology, Sport Psychology or Sports Science (or equivalent)

  • Significant experience leading the provision of sport psychology support services to elite adolescent athletes, including both group and individual delivery

  • Experience working with high performance teams, including the provision of support for major tournaments and events

  • Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team and/or wellbeing forum to deliver impactful psychological support

  • Experience of working with coaches to support performance and in shaping the delivery of a psychologically informed environment

  • Significant experience of stakeholder management and influencing others

  • High standards of personal and professional integrity

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • An ability to think on your feet and respond to rapidly evolving situations

  • Full Driving License

  • Enhanced DBS

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of working in cricket and/or women’s team sport

  • Previous experience of supporting individuals or teams in-situ at major international events
