The South Devon National Landscape Team is on a mission to preserve the stunning coastal environment and its rare species through the Life on the Edge Project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. As an apprentice, you will be at the forefront of efforts to create, restore, and conserve habitats crucial for the survival of 30 rare invertebrates, including species like the Mediterranean Oil Beetle and Britain's rarest bee, the Six-banded Nomad Bee.

Role Summary:

  • Work towards a Level 2 Countryside Worker qualification with a partner training provider.
  • Collaborate with the National Trust and local Ranger teams at Southdown farm and Coleton Fishacre.
  • Conserve and enhance the natural landscapes for both people and wildlife over 90km of the South Devon Coast.
  • Gain hands-on experience in nature conservation, improve access, and inspire the public about nature.

  • A willingness to learn and passion for conserving the natural world.
  • Varied work including practical estate work, surveying plants and insects, and public engagement at events.
  • Openness to participate in broader project activities with various project delivery partners.

The South Devon National Landscape Team are looking for three Apprentices as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund supported, Life on the Edge Project (LotE). LotE Apprentices will be helping create, restore and conserve important habitats on the South Devon coast, all working towards securing a future for 30 rare and threatened invertebrates which call South Devon home. Species include Mediterranean Oil Beetle, Long-horned Bee and the rarest bee in Britain, the Six-banded Nomad Bee. They will work towards a Level 2 Countryside Worker qualification, with a partner training provider. Working alongside project partners, the National Trust, apprentices will be hosted by local Ranger teams at two locations; Southdown farm and Coleton Fishacre who look to conserve and enhance the spaces for people and for nature. Working at National Trust sites, ranging over 90km along the entirety of the South Devon Coast, these LotE apprenticeship opportunities will have a fantastic insight into the world of nature conservation, whilst improving access and inspiring others about nature. Applicants who meet the scheme requirements and have a keenness to learn more about the natural world and how to conserve it, are urged to apply.
