Keep Britain Tidy, in collaboration with the London Borough of Newham, is seeking passionate individuals to become Waste & Recycling Advisors. This exciting opportunity allows you to engage directly with the community, educating and improving the local waste and recycling services. As a part of this mission-driven team, you will contribute to a cleaner, greener environment while earning the London Living Wage with additional shift allowances.

Role Summary:

  • Use data collection software and touchscreen tablets to record resident responses.

Role Requirements:

  • Interest and understanding of the environmental and waste sectors.
  • Ability to work outdoors and engage with the public.
  • Commitment to complete two mandatory days of paid training.
  • Availability to work 37.5 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday, from 11 am to 7 pm.

Waste & Recycling Advisor (Newham) – 6 posts

Salary: £13.15 per hour (London Living Wage)

Plus a £13.15 shift allowance for every 7.5 hour complete shift worked (equivalent to an extra £1.75 per hour) and an additional £100 for completing 20 shifts (a maximum of £200 for the project length)

Hours:  37.5 hours per week, worked at 7.5 paid hours per day from 11am to 7pm over 5 days from Tuesday to Saturday (with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break)

Part time positions will be considered with a minimum three day a week commitment

Contract: Casual Contract due to finish on 22nd October 2024

Location:  Mobile, anywhere within the boundary of the London Borough of Newham

Keep Britain Tidy is working with the London Borough of Newham to engage its residents with recent changes to its waste and recycling service. The Waste & Recycling Advisors will engage residents on the doorstep to make sure they understand the service changes.

Waste & Recycling Advisors will work in pairs and will cover streets across the borough each day on foot.

Responsibilities include:

·       Engaging with residents about their waste and recycling service, using reference resources where appropriate (provided by the council).

·       Recording resident responses into a bespoke form using data collection software on a touchscreen tablet (provided by the council) and submitting this to the council.

Subject to successful interview there will be two mandatory days of paid training and applicants must be available to attend all training days.

The successful applicants will have an interest in and understanding of the environmental and waste sectors, and the ability and willingness to undertake work in an outdoor environment.

 This position will provide sought-after experience for someone looking for a career in the environmental sector, especially the waste and recycling industry, and is paid at the London Living Wage. In joining this project you also have the opportunity of joining our Bank of Casual Workers, through which further employment may be available at the end of this contract.
