What will you be doing?
Timewise is a multi-award winning community interest company and the UK’s leading expert on workplace security and flexibility. We provide a range of research, consultancy and training services that work for both employers and employees and build more inclusive workplaces. We support businesses in all sectors to make secure and flexible working a success – organisations we work with are as diverse as the NHS, Google and Lloyds Banking Group. We are a trusted advisor to Government, social funders and think tanks alike who come to us for our straight-talking evidence-based approach about what works when changing business practice on secure and flexible working, and our work features regularly in the media. Alongside our consulting services we also design, develop and run a range of programmes, looking to stimulate wider systemic change for those facing specific inequalities in the workplace due to their need to work flexibly. Duties:
Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions, which are the main focus for your contributions Support and provide advice on our purpose, vision, goals and activities. Oversee our financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress. Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation. Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively. Review and approve Timewise financial statements. Provide support and challenge to Timewise’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs. Keep abreast of changes in our operating environment. Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Timewise’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests. Contribute to the broader promotion of Timewise’s objects, aims and reputation by bringing your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
As a small organisation, there may be times when the non Execs will be asked to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or advising on / supporting the senior team with other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. You do not need previous governance experience – we will provide a full induction. Personal skills and qualities
Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as non Execs and to act in the best interests of the organisation. Financial awareness to help hold the team to account. Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member. Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion. A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Enthusiasm for our vision and mission. Specialist expertise To compliment the skills of our current Board members we would welcome applications from people with:
Experience of having grown a small to medium size consultancy services firm, to help support and develop our growing consultancy offer Knowledge of current employment law, particularly around flexible working, predictable work and fair work Financial management experience and qualifications Fundraising expertise and/or corporate sponsorship experience.
Terms of office Non Execs are appointed for a 3 year term of office, renewal for 3 further terms to a maximum of 6 years. This is a voluntary position, but travel expenses are reimbursed.
