The John Muir Trust, a conservation charity dedicated to the protection of wild land, is seeking a proactive and passionate Parliamentary Officer to join its Policy team. Role Summary:
- Build and manage relationships with Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), their offices, and political party researchers.
- Monitor parliamentary business and provide concise reports.
- Implement strategic parliamentary engagement initiatives.
- Develop targeted communications to influence policy.
- Effectively communicate the Trust's positions on environmental matters.

This is a home-based, full-time position for a 1-year maternity cover, with a competitive salary and benefits including a pension scheme, generous holiday allowance, and 'wild days' for adventure or sustainable travel.
The John Muir Trust is recruiting a Parliamentary Officer to help deliver our parliamentary engagement work in Scotland and across the UK. This is a unique entry-level opportunity to join the Trust’s Policy team as it looks to develop its resources and expand its political influence. The team will invest in your professional growth and equip you with the skills and knowledge required to lead on parliamentary work.
In this role you will manage relationships with MSPs, their offices and political party researchers; monitor and report on parliamentary business; execute parliamentary engagement work; target communications and resources for influence; and communicate Trust positions. When applying you should demonstrate your experience in establishing effective relationships and delivering impact. This is a home-based role, with regular travel to the Scottish Parliament. Office space available depending on location. The contract is for 1 year Maternity Cover, with a full time commitment of 35 hours per week. The salary is Band B, starting at £26,676. The Trust offers a pension scheme with 5% employer contribution and 34 days of holidays per year plus 2 ‘wild days’ or 2 sustainable travel days.
