Description
Key Responsibilities
Own the sourcing and processing market fundamentals data for GB and support the development of our in-house fundamentals model: Research, analyse and synthesise key energy market information (capacity mix, demand, commodities, prices, etc) to maintain the data inputs for our in-house fundamentals model in GB. Build and maintain tools for efficient processing of data inputs and ensure they are kept up to date. Liaise with the model developers to challenge and improve our in-house fundamentals model, and serve as a thought partner for development of new features or ways to model markets.
Produce high-quality electricity market research and analysis: Carry out primary research, including developing models as relevant or running scenarios using our in-house fundamentals model. Produce robust analysis on electricity market fundamentals, and quickly and precisely present the conclusions with clear actions and implications for Field. Present outcomes to senior leadership, investors and/or the board. Examples of past research projects include:- Analysing the impact of regulatory modifications to establish Field position.
- Analysing battery buildout in GB and Europe and impact on our revenues.
- Determining Field capacity market bidding strategy.
Produce regular board reporting and updates: create monthly updates for the board on forecast vs actual revenues, complete ad-hoc requested analyses (examples in the past include deep-dive on fundamentals market drivers in GB), regularly update the business about short- to medium-term market trends to support the operation of our assets.
Own external revenue curves for GB: maintain relationships with external revenue curve providers, regularly assess which one(s) we should be using (in terms of provider, cycling assumptions, etc) and provide updates to the business on latest forecasts and changes and impacts for the business.
Monitor key market developments and changes in the drivers of value in merchant markets: Communicate key market updates and conduct analysis on expected impacts of recent market developments on Field’s business case.
Provide energy market expertise: Together with Analysis colleagues, provide technical expertise around the energy and ancillary services markets to the wider business and senior stakeholders.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Desire to drive decisions through analysis and have a real impact on the business
- Expert in electricity/energy market intelligence gathering and analysis and the use of market modelling tools
- In-depth knowledge and ability to abstractly represent key market drivers of at least one of GB or other major EU market
- Ability to conceptually understand how market movements impact the business case for low-carbon flexibility
- Strong Excel skills, programming skills desirable (notably for data manipulation)
- Capacity to produce, under supervision, clear and actionable analysis outputs
- Great communicator that enjoys both upskilling team members and learning from them
- Humble and hands-on team player
- Ability to work well with others at all levels
- Ability to work to tight timescales and deadlines
- Background in energy market analysis and insights within a specialist consultancy or practice, research environment, or energy market participant
- Ability to source data from numerous sources and diligently produce usable and reliable sets of model inputs
- Strong written and verbal presentation skills, good communicator, good listener, ability to understand analysis needs from different stakeholders and translate them into analytical work
- Good understanding of typical energy market mechanisms as well as generation, interconnection and storage technologies
- Strong Excel modelling skills and experience using or developing market modelling tools
