- Further develop and enhance our in-house power systems model.
- Create price and revenue forecasts to inform strategic decision-making and market transactions.
- Refactor and improve Python code, integrate AWS, and expand to new regions.
- Become a subject matter expert in market fundamentals and model development.
- Proven experience in energy system modeling within a relevant sector.
- Proficiency in Python programming and familiar with Git and AWS.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical topics to a diverse audience.
- Knowledge in Operations Research, Data Science, or related fields is desirable.

Description
Key Responsibilities
Develop novel methodologies for forecasting market-level prices and BESS revenue curves: Assess available data, understand market structures and model how to best emulate these within the existing framework with an eye on robust, appropriately sensitive and easily explainable results driven by underlying fundamental drives.
Own, maintain and improve the existing in-house model: Support general maintenance and improvements of the existing model codebase, challenge existing methodologies, respond to changes in policy and market reforms. and help us scale model use by thinking about the end-to-end user experience.
Provide fundamentals market expertise: Together with Analysis colleagues, provide technical expertise around the energy and ancillary services markets to the Treasury/Tech teams and wider business and senior stakeholders.
Feed quantitative, data-backed recommendations to support decision-making within Field: Supporting the Fundamentals Lead, produce high-quality market analysis and robust scenario modelling to inform strategic decisions making, for example assessing the impact of regulatory modifications or utilising revenue forecasts to determine Field capacity market bidding strategies.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- You’re detail-oriented from start to finish (from inputs through to outputs), willing to get into the weeds of QA and ensure models are working correctly and accurately
- You enjoy solving problems - from structuring modelling approaches to debugging models to determining the most impactful way to generate model outputs.
- You’re enthusiastic, curious and knowledgeable about the energy storage industry.
- You’re very organised - you’ll be spinning a few plates at once, so you’ll need to have tried and tested methods for keeping on top of a varied workload at your fingertips.
- You’re an open, clear communicator who enjoys working collaboratively - there are no ‘lone wolves’ at Field, we’re all in this together.
- Background in energy system modelling within a specialist consultancy or practice, research environment, or energy market participant
- Experience with forecasting methodologies, in at least one of the following categories
- Using optimisation/Operations Research techniques
- Statistical approaches/DS/ML
- Strong modelling skills - ability to distil key information and convert this into equations reflective of the underlying drivers
- Strong programming experience, preferably in Python
- Familiarity with software development best practices (e.g. Git, AWS integration)
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Able to communicate complex technical topics in a clear and concise manner to non-technical audiences
Nice-to-have: experience with an algebraic modelling language (E.g. GAMS, AMPL) or Python modelling packages (e.g. Pyomo, CVXPY), experience with open-source or commercial solvers, experience with gas price forecasting or demand modelling
