What will you be doing?
What will you be doing? We need someone to run the clinic and support optometrists and assistants. Ideally you will have experience in working within an optical context or relevant transferrable skills which will enable you to learn and support with the practicalities and procedures of running an opticians clinic. The Clinic currently runs every two weeks on a Monday from 9:30am - 13:00pm. Ideally you will be able to attend all sessions. You will work with optometrists and dispensing opticians who will maintain the clinical standards while you will work alongside them to help with administrative and clinic management tasks. You will be supported by Vision Care for Homeless People's staff team. Part of the role will involve welcoming patients, registering them into our patient management system, helping them to choose spectacles and ordering, fitting and repairing glasses. Once trained, you will take on the wider practicalities and administration of running the clinic. You will train and support the clinic assistants to ensure all administrative procedures are completed and the clinic runs effectively. Your role will include: 1) Meeting, interviewing, inducting, training and supervising the team of volunteers and students who work in the clinic. 2) Training and mentoring the clinic team to deliver accurate and complete clinic processes, excellent service and good communication with patients, centre staff and volunteers. 3) Ensuring all administrative and clinic standard procedures are followed. (Professional optometrists are responsible for the clinical standards.) 4) Monitoring and controlling completion and processing of clinic activity, tracking, ordering and NHS forms using online patient management system. 5) Advising on and troubleshooting problems with glasses, orders, collections and follow up of non-collections. 6) Liaising with the clinic’s host centre on operational matters. 7) Ensuring the clinic has everything it needs to run. Arranging for new stationery and supplies. Arranging upkeep of the clinic facilities, equipment and environment. 8) Acting as branch health and safety contact for receiving and processing concerns or incident reports. Liaise with Operations Manager and General Manager on risk matters. 9) Leading on occasional branch audits, such as local risk assessment, Quality in Optometry checks, infection control.

You will need management and team leadership experience and skills. You will be able to learn and use our online Patient Management System. You will be someone who will take pride in making the clinic an efficient, structured and friendly service for our clients experiencing homelessness. You will have empathy for those experiencing homelessness and be friendly and approachable.

You will make a huge difference to the lives of the patients you see and serve. You will see the results of your work on the faces of our clients when they receive a pair of glasses; often a really significant step in putting their life back together again after experiencing homelessness. You will join a community of over 100 volunteers delivering this vital service in cities across England (and Scotland). All relevant training for the role will be provided.
