Role Summary:Optimize operational and cost efficiency of AWS infrastructureModernize cloud systems and convert legacy infrastructure to Terraform IaCLead and participate in design sessions, problem-solving, and planningEngage in mentorship and collaborative work practices

Job Title: Senior DevOps Engineer - Kubernetes and AWS
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 09.00 - 17.00, 36.25 hours per week 
Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 and up to 20% bonus and benefits 
Location: Flexible – Embrace either a fully remote role or hybrid work from any of our vibrant UK offices in London, Cardiff, Durham, or Blackpool

Reporting to the Cloud Platform Lead you’ll be responsible for improving the both the operational and cost efficiency of our AWS estate. You’ll be working on all aspects of modernisation of our cloud systems, converting legacy infrastructure to modern vendor- neutral Terraform IaC and removing waste along the way.

Role Summary
Working under the direction of your Tech Lead, you're focus will be providing resilient and efficient cloud infrastructure. You'll perform and teach in activities, providing a structured environment for Junior and Mid-level colleagues. You will refine, plan and help create tickets in our work management system. You will help to plan and report on your squads work. You'll participate in and lead design sessions with the team to help generate and select appropriate ideas and solutions. You are an excellent written and oral communicator who is proactive and polite in their approach to others right across the business. You'll solve problems unassisted, and help others to resolve the problems they encounter. You will identify and escalate blockers to your Tech Lead.
Responsibilities
  • Strong understanding AWS as a cloud platform with an emphasis on the difficulties around running containerised services
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes, as a managed service from AWS as well as running it for yourself on your own provisioned metal
  • Strong understanding of everything required to run traditional and containerised workloads on AWS
  • Strong understanding of databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS-SQL, Mongo)
  • Strong ability with Terraform and the principles of best practice with IaC
  • Strong experience with all aspects of networking required to securely run cloud infrastructure
  • Good experience with Keycloak and OIDC
  • Good experience with Kong or similar REST API gateway technology
  • A history of software development (as well as infrastructure management
  • A willingness to get “stuck in to the code” rather than needing to wait for a developer to explain how it works
Required Skills
  • Software development experience with one of (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript)
  • Previous experience with event-driven microservices
  • Previous experience with Apache Kafka
  • Previous experience with NodeJS, NestJS, TypeScript
  • Previous exposure to or knowledge of the Financial Services or Fintech industry,
  • Experience in a transformation environment would be particularly beneficial
  • Experience working in a regulated industry or environment
  • Experience of working in a start-up or scale-up
  • Experience of engaging and managing the day-to-day relationship with Information Security (DevSecOps)
  • Experience working with Information Security tooling such as Paulo Alto Networks, Prisma Cloud, Hunters SOC/SIEM Solution, and Qualys WAS
