The role of the Conservator: Pictorial Art involves caring for the collection through a combination of interventive and preventive measures in support of the museum's operating plan, and contributing to public outreach activities of the Department of Collection Care. This role requires the post holder to be developing specialist knowledge in the conservation of East and South Asian and Middle Eastern pictorial art on paper in order to support the Museum loan and exhibition programme.
Job requirements include a recognised professional conservation qualification to degree level or equivalent, with emphasis on the conservation of the material relevant to the specialism of the role. Demonstrable practical skills in paper conservation and a strong interest in the conservation of Asian pictorial art on paper are also required. Good computing skills and proficiency with a range of IT systems are necessary.
