For over thirty years we have been saving lives and helping war-torn communities recover, by making their land safe. HALO is known for its work to clear landmines, but we also lead on dealing with unexploded ordnance, from bullets to aircraft bombs, and we educate communities to keep them safe. In addition, we build safe arms stores and systems for securing guns. HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 12,000 staff in 30 countries and territories.
About the role:
Are you passionate about technology? This is your chance to join a close-knit team making a real difference. The HALO Trust, a sector-leading humanitarian NGO, is seeking an enthusiastic Cloud Systems Specialist to join our team.
Working under the supervision of the Head of ICT you will design, implement, and manage secure, scalable, and cost-effective cloud-based systems and services. This includes working with a variety of cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will also work with other teams and departments to ensure that cloud-based systems are integrated in a secure and efficient manner.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement cloud-based systems and architectures.
- Provision and manage cloud resources.
- Configure and secure cloud-based systems.
- Monitoring and troubleshoot cloud-based systems.
- Migrate on-premises systems to the cloud.
- Integrate cloud services with existing systems.
- Provide support to your teammates, as well as colleagues in other departments.
- Think outside the box and propose innovative solutions to improve our systems.
- Any other duties allocated by the line manager or senior management, following consultation with the post holder
Requirements
- Is proficient in at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Has knowledge of cloud computing concepts (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
- Has some expertise in networking, virtualization, and storage technologies.
- Understands ICT infrastructure components (servers, databases, applications, etc.).
- Has a minimum of 2 years of experience in cloud infrastructure management.
- Can troubleshoot and resolve cloud-related issues.
- Understands cloud security principles and best practices.
- Loves technology and is eager to learn new things.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Communicates effectively and builds positive relationships.
- Is a team player with a can-do attitude.
- Remains calm and collected under pressure.
Desirable skills/experience:
- AWS certifications, especially Solutions Architect or Cloud Engineer paths.
- Proficiency in one scripting language (Python, Bash, Ruby, etc.).
- Familiarity of DevOps principles, including CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to take effective and creative approaches to problem solving.
- Confidence to challenge existing working practices and offer ideas.
- Relevant ICT qualification at HNC level or higher.
