We’re looking for a Senior Resource Manager to join our Scheduling team and lead the resourcing of projects and opportunities, across one or more of our business units, to deliver a tangible impact to our clients that will drive real value for Newton. It’s an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a stretching resourcing role working alongside Partners in the day to day, as well as working with the Head of Resourcing to shape and execute a transformation vision of the function.

The role of Senior Resource Manager is a major role in Newton. Having the highest performing scheduling function is critical to our success. Scheduling operates at the very heart of the company and needs to bring together our deep knowledge of our clients and propositions, individual consultants, our culture and values, our financial and business aims, and our commercial model, and then apply that wide knowledge in the optimal way to build high performing teams to deliver meaningful impact through our multi-million-pound programmes. It is the lynchpin that enables Newton to generate its revenue and profit, enables our people to thrive and grow, and ultimately to exceed all our clients’ expectations.

Scheduling is a highly regarded function with six team members, who operate across our three clusters (industry groups) to schedule our ~450 consultants. We are in the process of upgrading our scheduling system (ProFinda) and are a technically capable team who bolster this with insight from bespoke dashboards in PowerBI and Excel. We want to continue this journey of investment and development in our technology and team to add ever more value to the business.

We operate a flexible scheduling model to deliver a high business utilisation, flexing resource across the business. We also recognise that scheduling is the most important factor in a consultant’s role enjoyment and career development and use that to shape our approach. Whilst recognising that the Partner who has sold the work may have the best understanding of the project, client and skills required – we take overall responsibility for selecting the right teams, matching the immediate client need with other projects and longer-term broader business impacts such as client development, knowledge sharing and team diversity.

We see opportunities for the future to build a scheduling function who is an ever-greater part of workforce planning, capacity and demand management, and the structure of teams Partners think they need to deliver certain types of work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deployment of resource: Work closely with stakeholders and the wider team to match client demands with the skills and capabilities of our workforce, finding solutions for resourcing conflicts, and ensuring best utilisation of individuals for both their development and business profitability
  • Relationship building and stakeholder management: Hold respected and trusted relationships with the cluster leadership teams and other Head Office functions.
  • Line management & leadership: Line management of cluster aligned individuals and respected leader in Scheduling, Operations and Head Office and the clusters.
  • Transformation: Working with the Head of Resourcing to design and execute a transformation of the function with investment in new technology and reshaping of the team and our ways of working
  • Active member of the cluster leadership team: Attend and provide updates Partner Meetings and Cluster Leadership Days. An authority and decision maker in Cluster Leadership Teams acting as a peer to the Partners.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities for improvement, build consensus and drive to completion – in the cluster, and in some areas cross cluster. Informed through external perspective and Newton understanding.
  • Data-driven insights and reporting: Leverage data and provide insight to senior stakeholders on upcoming capacity, peaks and conflicts to shape debates with consulting and Head Office leaders which informs and drives the right business decisions.
  • Understanding the nature of our work and our people: Understand our clients, propositions, employees, as well as our business strategy and aims. Apply this knowledge in the optimal way to build high performing teams to deliver meaningful impact through our multi-million-pound programmes
  • Strategy implementation & workforce planning: Translate scheduling strategy into practice in the clusters to ensure both cluster and cross-business aims are achieved. Work with cluster leaders and other head office functions to determine a workforce plan to support the future cluster strategy and play a key role in the execution of this.

We are looking for someone who is unsatisfied with the status-quo, mediocrity, the-nature-of-the-beast or industry best practice – constantly strives for the best client outcomes, Newton results and experience for their team and consultants. They love their work and working alongside them is a pleasure. They find opportunities to collaborate broadly – especially between resource managers and others relish doing so because of the positive shared experience

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Build respected, peer relationships of trust and mutual respect from the most junior in the business to Board members.
  • Understand the impact which scheduling has on client results, business outcomes and individual careers and confidently make balanced decisions with empathy and commercial nous.
  • Draw on experience, industry awareness and a network which supports their delivery of an incredible scheduling service.
  • Provide line management which inspires, enables, empowers, and develops team members holding high expectations of themselves and their team.
  • Role model the rigour, proactivity, high-performance and business outcome mindset which we want the team to embody.
  • Recognise their leadership role and act accordingly – role modelling behaviours, actively listening, supporting wider initiatives and seeking to make Newton a better business.
  • Add energy to the system and makes things happen – see the gap and take it upon themselves to make it so, doesn’t wait and expect others to give them direction or permission.
