What will you be doing?
TOC is a registered charity with a Board of Trustees and one full time Director who runs the venue, manages the arts programme and supervises a small team of part-time and casual members of staff. With such a small team our Treasurer plays a vital role in drawing up budgets, monitoring cash flow and overseeing the financial procedures of the organisation. Following the disruption of Covid, we have been re-building our profile and in 2023-24 we made a small operating profit, so this is an exciting time to join the team and help us to develop our procedures to devolve more financial control to staff, help consolidate our financial position and prepare for further growth.
What are we looking for?
Finance background or experience in preparing financial reports and good excel knowledge. Knowledge of Xero is an advantage. Attention to detail and good organisational skills Experience setting up and improving financial processes Trustworthy and honest: must be committed to the confidentiality of all financial information Commitment to financial ethics: integrity, objectivity, competence, due care and confidentiality A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee An ability to work effectively as a member of a team An understanding of legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship A commitment to The Old Church and its objectives Good, independent judgement and strategic vision A willingness to ask questions and speak their mind
The out-going Treasurer estimates they spend 3-4 hours a week on the role.
What difference will you make?
We are committed to inspiring our local community and audiences through the transformational power of the arts, hosting a wide variety of music, art, dance, and performance events. Our mission is to bring together and celebrate our local community through a creative programme that sparks collective joy. Our Treasurer will play a crucial role in helping us to grow and maintain financial viability. Thriving financially will enable us to cross-subisidise our work to reach more people, especially from marginalised and minoritised groups.
