What will you be doing?
eMpower Maldon is a new community business operating in the Maldon area of Essex. The Society aims to produce renewable energy projects including rooftop solar projects. Community Energy South (CES) is a capacity building non-profit which is supporting eMpower Maldon, alongside support provided by Essex County Council. This growth needs strong management by the board of directors, which is why four additional people are required to help run the Society alongside the existing team of three. We are keen to maintain diversity in terms of background, culture, abilities, experiences and approaches. Tasks for the whole team include: data management, project management, design/review of leases, site relationships, volunteer management, procurement, web upgrade, social media content management, lead on marketing and admin to name a few. Newcomers will be required to have a skill in at least one of these types of tasks. Most importantly, we need people who are committed to climate change mitigation, diligent, proactive, imaginative and who will enjoy working with our small team to make us bigger and stronger.
What are we looking for?
In general, management experience is needed. This can be in any area relevant to the previous description including: change managment, project/operations management, engineering relative to renewables projects, coordinating staff/volunteers, marketing, engagement etc. We aim to ensure all skills are present across the Board.
What difference will you make?
As part of our leadership team you will support and shape our work, growth and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our purpose to grow locally generated and locally owned renewable energy. This is a vital role, and as a board member (we refer to as 'director'), you will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the Society. We meet as a board online once per month plus occasional additional meetings in person for project-specific activities.
