Volunteer XRUK Finance team accountant

What will you be doing?

We are the Finance team who supports XR UK.   We work behind the scenes, maintaining control over income, spending and statutory reporting, enabling the wider teams to create the eye-catching campaigns that are influencing views on climate change.   Our income is entirely from fundraising. Our expenditure is on equipment, stationary and other materials needed during actions, travel and accommodation, software licences, living expense paid to full time volunteers and much else. You need an accountancy background, working remotely with our bookkeeper in producing annual accounts, annual turnover £750,000. Hours are flexible, work when you can. There is a peak in the run-up to year-end in June, but that can reduce with good preparation.  You need to be able to join our weekly team meeting on Zoom at least once a month. The day and time can be discussed to suit us all. XR is not hierarchical and each XR team is self organising, choosing what they do provided it follows our principles and values and the team's mandate. We have training programmes to enable you to learn how we operate, our cultures and how we support inclusivity and diversity. We will train you in the processes we use in the Finance team and welcome your own ideas. XR strongly encourages role sharing so that as a volunteer, you do not feel under any pressure. Therefore you may be working or sharing work with others.

What are we looking for?

You have the knowledge, experience and qualifications to be able to prepare a set of accounts which are maintained in Xero that can be shared on Companies House.   Useful is a knowledge of company law or taxation law
