  • Collaborate with the Product team to implement growth-centric features and experiments.
  • Propose and prototype product enhancements to increase subscriber numbers.
  • Design and develop solutions considering performance, scalability, and code maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues as reported by users.
  • Contribute to the technological trajectory of the team and company.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm for working in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
  • At least 2 years of full-stack engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in front-end development and eagerness to enhance backend and data layer skills.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn Javascript, React, HTML, CSS, AWS.

The role offers a competitive salary range of $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 USD, with total compensation varying by education, experience, skills, and location. About the Role 

The Athletic is rapidly innovating in the world of journalism. We've developed a high quality subscription product that users love enough to give us a 4.9 rating in the App Store, and we see best in class retention rates when it's time for users to renew their subscription. We're building a product that users love and we want to keep growing it. That's where you come in!  

This role is remote to the US and Canada only. 

Responsibilities

Work with Product team to implement growth-related features and experiments on the website and in our backend APIs. Suggest and prototype product improvements and features aimed at growing our subscriber base. Architect and build solutions that take into account performance, growth, scalability, ease of future development, and code quality. Investigate, debug, and fix user-reported production issues. Work with team to influence technology direction.

Requirements

Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to work in fast-paced, growth environment. 2+ years full-stack engineering development. Experience delivering products working across the stack—you’re comfortable building the frontend, and want to grow your skills in the backend and designing the data persistence layer. Bachelor's degree in CS or relevant discipline. Experience with Javascript, React, HTML, CSS, AWS (or desire to learn).

The annual base salary range for this role is $120,000.00 - $140,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
